RStudio Server on Oracle Cloud Free Tier

Last year, I learned Oracle provided a pretty good cloud service for free. So I created an account and configured some basic things. Then I have forgotten about it. When I finished setting up the RStudio Server on my NAS device, I wasn’t sure to run it on Docker. By then, I realized I have a free Oracle Cloud account and tried using it. It looked like a good idea because it’s likely to utilize R and DB like Oracle together for analyzing data.

After googling a lot more than I thought, I eventually made it run on Oracle Cloud Free Tier. It’s easier than before because of unlimited OS, Ubuntu, ussge. At the same time, it’s more challenging due to no GUI support like DSM packages, unfamiliar cloud development environments and terminologies, limited resources, etc.

Also, I adopted almost all of the functions in Cloudflare with the Freenom domain. I don’t decide yet whether the other RStudio Server will be closed. If I make a Shiny Server run, I probably will stop them from running on Docker.

I wish I will summarize how to set it up later.
